City of Salem staff have been working to reach people living in vehicles in West Salem and providing them alternative living options.

Another West priority has been concluding camping at areas in danger of flooding such as along the Willamette River; The City anticipates not being 100% successful with people coming in to shelters and housing but wants to help people not be surprised by rising river water.

The City of Salem is grateful that the State of Oregon provided funds to the Community Action Agency for warming services!  Community Action also received a $5 million grant to help families who are experiencing homelessness be rehoused and so The City is grateful for that, as well.

City Staff collaborated with the Fire Department to come up with a summary code requirement sheet for new and existing warming shelters and is working to finalize it. Once a site is nearly ready, the Fire Department likes to visit to assess the property and give feedback.

Committee Chair has reached out to a couple local organizations requesting feedback on current status as we enter Winter months and possible flooding this week.  I will provide an update at the meeting if updates are received.
